Q. What is special about Scholar Basketball Academy Basketball Camps compared to other
basketball training courses or other sports camps?
A. Our camps follows a strict training program that is specially designed by professional and
experienced trainers and approved by Master Trainer Wong Wei Long, who is a well-known
former professional player in Singapore.
Q. Who are these camps for?
A. Boys and girls ages 6-18 who like playing basketball, who want to play on school or community
basketball teams. Players without any experience are free to join as well as we do cater for
beginners.
Q. What will my child learn or gain from attending this camp?
A. For beginners, he or she will learn everything new about basketball, from the rules, the terms, the
fundamental skills and basic concept of the game. It is important for kids at a young age to develop a passion for the sport and learning it the right way.
For experienced players, he or she will work intensively on various skills that is required for him to
perform well on the court at his or her age.
In Scholar Basketball Academy, we emphasize on the importance of good ball handling, but we do not neglect the other aspects of the game. Advanced
game concepts will also be taught to the players to ensure they continue to develop strong game IQ to think the game.
Q. What do the kids need to bring to camp?
A. Your child will need to be in their sports attire which means t-shirt/jersey and shorts as well as
proper basketball or running shoes (basketball shoes are preferred). They will also need to bring
along a water bottle for hydration purpose. The most important thing the kids need to bring is a
good learning attitude and a willingness to work hard.
Q. Do the boys and girls practice and play together?
A. All campers are separated into different groups and timing by age, gender, and skill level.
Campers of similar age and skill level may train together regardless of their gender.
Q. Will each student camper get individual time with the trainers?
A. With a low camper to trainer ratio of 1:8, more attention can be given to all the campers and
trainers can select certain camper to coach him or her privately by the side.
Q. What is the benefit in returning to camp again and again?
A. Campers comes back for our camps quarterly as our camps is focused on skills and fun-based
learning. Campers will always recap what was learned in the previous camps and bring home new
skills that they have not practiced. Many of our campers have attended 3-4 sessions with us every
year.
Q. What qualifications and experience to Scholar Basketball Academy Basketball Camps trainers
have?
A. Our trainers are all MOE-certified and possesses NCAP Certification awarded by Basketball Association of Singapore and Sports Singapore. Many of our trainers are National Division 1 or 2 players with years of coaching and playing experience. All our trainers are trained under Master Trainer Wong through an intensive coaching program.
Q. Does Scholar Basketball Academy Basketball Camps utilize the same drills at every camp?
A. Yes. The drills working on the fundamental skills and movement remain the same for all skill
levels. As players progress in abilities, they are given higher level drills and ball-handling moves to
practice and work on.
Q. Can my child miss a day or half-day during a camp? Will this put them behind?
A. It is not uncommon for kids to occasionally miss a day or have to leave early or arrive late on
some days due to various reasons. We realize that family schedules require flexibility. If they miss
instructions for a new drill or ball-handling move, trainers will pay special attention to them when
executing to bring them back up to speed.
Q. Will there be any pro-rating for the camp if my kids have to miss a day or two?
A. There will be no pro-rating for the camp as the program has been pre-planned.
Q. My child is only 7 or 8 years old. Will this camp be too intense or hard for them?
A. It may be. Our camps are a lot of work. We do have several trainers trained to work with this
young age group. We do not push them as hard as the older age groups. Some kids will move up
with the older kids; most will stay at their age level. There are very few children who cannot meet
the rigors of practice, or who do not have the stamina or physical abilities required.
Q. My child is in high school. Is he/she too old for this camp?
A. We have a lot of high school kids who attend our camps. Most of the drills and teaching
techniques used at the camps are suitable for competition at their age or even at the adult level.
Q. Will my child be safe at Scholar Basketball Academy Basketball Camps?
A. Safety is our number one priority. All our trainers are First Aid and AED certified and can handle
most minor injuries.
Q. What is the cancellation and refund policy?
A. If you cannot attend the camp for any reason, including schedule conflicts, last-minute injuries, a
concussion, an unexpected illness, or a family emergency, you can transfer 100% of your camp fees paid to a future camp, transfer it to a friend, or donate it to an underprivileged player. No refund will be given. If any of the event happens during the camp, we will do a pro-rating of the camp fees and it will be transferred to a future camp.
