T H E  W F H  E F F E C T

As of 7th April, the government implemented the “COVID-19 circuit breaker” till 4th May. What can we do? Where can we go? Is the court safe?

Stay at home. Only go out if necessary, such as buying daily necessities or for urgent medical needs. Do not hold social gatherings during this period. Limit social contact to immediate family members. If you need to exercise in a outdoor environment, keep a safe distance from others.

According to last sentence, you may go and exercises outdoors in a park. Do maintain safe-distancing measures. If you are still worried, you may practice at the comforts of your home. SBA will be providing many workouts from home videos via our Instagram and Facebook page. Do follow and challenge yourself in this month-long period

 

OUR STUDENTS UPDATES

Kazuo loves the game of basketball started with SBA at the age of 8. During this period, he and his family are doing well, spending valuable family time together. Being disciplined in his Home-Based Learning for his school work, life without basketball is challenging but Kazuo is taking it well by completing the drills at home at the garden roof or the basement.

A word of encouragement to all the students from his father: “Basketball training need not always be in court. You have your ball you can train anywhere. Make use of this circuit breaker period to master your ball handling and your fitness at your void deck, roof garden or any open area. These are very important components for your basketball training. Stay safe and healthy at all time.

Jedidiah Mah, another passionate kid whilst still being cheeky started his basketball journey at the age of 5. With a never-say-die attitude, he shows his work ethics well in learning. His family is working from home and have allocated his timetable for his school learning as well as his basketball training at home. According to Jed’s mom HBL is a concern for him as it does not seem to be tedious or challenging and is worried about his progress when he goes back to school. Jedidiah has developed the basketball fever like most of us, he is doing the drills given by us online at a miniature ring near his place but seems he is not doing the workout part. TSK TSK TSK jedidiah!

A word of encouragement to all the students from his mum: “Keep calm at home. If not your parents will also keep their calm and take their cane. be smart. HARDWORKER!! WHY YOU NO DO OUR WORKOUT JED!!!!”

Kyler Tan, the boy who plays with a big heart and will never give up on a possession easily. Kyler and his family are overwhelmed to the sudden change of lifestyle but they are managing well to the circumstances. HBL for Kyler is going well as he is disciplined but the parents are not sure on how long he will be self-disciplined and enthusiastic about it. Kyler has also developed the basketball fever and misses it greatly, Kyler has also managed to follow up with the drills and workout given by us online. Great work kid! Great work.

Drills From Home

Things that is needed: 1.5 liters bottle (multiple),  Towel, Workout Attitude ** especially important **

The idea of a bottle (fill with water) is to act as weights. We are going to work out 4 exercises that can be done with these household items. It takes about 10 mins to finish the exercises with the total amount of repetitions. Let’s get it going ! Workout From Home series.

Exercise 1: Kickback and extension

How: Stand on your left leg, arms bent at sides, with a bottle in each hand positioned either side of chest. Your right leg is bent, foot off the floor. Lean forward from the waist, then straighten both arms and right leg behind you. Ensure you maintain a straight back.

– Do 12 reps, then switch to left leg of 3 sets each

Exercise 2: Bicep curl with squat

How: Start by standing with feet shoulder-width apart holding a bottle of water in each hand. Bend your knees, push hips back and squat down towards the floor. As you straighten up, curl bottles to shoulders keeping arms tucked into sides.

– Do 20 reps of 3 sets

Exercise 3: Weighted bicycle crunch

How: Lie flat on the floor on your back with legs bent. Bend your arms and position hands either side of your head and lift legs to a 90-degree angle. Lift your head and shoulders off the floor, and bring your left elbow to your right knee as you straighten your left leg (left leg should be just a few inches off the floor), then repeat on the other side, bringing right elbow up to your left knee. That’s one rep.

– Do 15 reps of 3 sets

Exercise 4: Wood chop lunge

How: From a standing position, hold a bottle of water between both hands above your right shoulder, elbows slightly bent. Take a long stride forward on your left leg, bending both knees as you lower into a lunge, and at the same time, lower the bottle diagonally across your body to the outside of your left thigh. Push back up to your starting position and return the weight above right shoulder. Repeat.

– Do 12 lunges on each side of 3 sets each

Well done, we have come to the end of the workout exercise. Remember the towel? Use it to wipe your sweat off and just before you go off to the showers, use the towel again to wipe the sweat on the floor too.
